Audio Archivist Episode #1 New Finds November 3rd 2015
Not very often I get some time to pop away to St. Jacobs Markets and the Antique Village but I was in Waterloo meeting my Mom and had a gig in Elora that evening so on the way I thought I would pop in to check the vinyl selection at the market across from the outlet mall.
Here is what I found.
Soundtrack to the movie Salsa ! why wouldn't I buy it right. :) Terrible movie, terrible soundtrack except the one track I bought it for Grupo Niche - Cali Pachanguero in english. Have on CD but now i have on vinyl
Willie Bobo - Spanish Grease was also available for sale I can never pass on a Willie Bobo LP when I find in the wild. The Classic title track alone is worth the price but add in Haitian Lady and this is an LP you must have in any Latin music collection
Another Canadian pressing of a Americanized Latin classic Edmundo Ros And His Orchestra - Samba ! This British composers tribute to Samba! I can never turn away from these cheesy versions of Latin music.
Today from Colombia some nice Salsa, Cumbia and Guaracha's First up is Peruvian Piano Player Lucho Macedo A Discos Victora release A Guapachar Con Lucho Macedo is a killer LP full of sweet Guarachas, Mambos and Boleros. A good add to anyone's Latin Music collection From Colombia a sweet Cumbia, Porro and Salsa record from chief label Discos FuentesChico Cervantes Y Su Nueva Banda. Standout tracks include Maria and Quien Se Robo La Plata. Must have for any Colombian Salsa fan. Last up is a band I don't know anything about but this is a surprisingly killer LP From Yeyo Y Su Salsa...Only words I have are Uffff.....Salsa from start to finish all classic tracks done suburbly Titles include Son De Loma, Lagrimas Negras, La Negra Tomasa and a killer version of Tumba La Caña. DJ Alert on this one..
Saw an ad on Kijiji today and purchased over 150 Cd's for $30.00 cdn. great deal.
Here is a partial list I will post all but can do all at once.
First up I went to bank machine and got $40 needed to break the two twenties so went into the closest thrift sop with vinyl ad picked up George Shearing Quintet - Touch Me Softly UK Pressing for a buck,
As a Salsa music DJ it is very difficult to get Salsa LP's in Canada so a large part of my collection is bought or traded online with sellers and other collectors around the globe.
Todays haul was a nice one
From Discogs my main source of purchasing as I find the sellers much friendlier, cheaper and easier to deal with.
Been looking for a nice copy of this LP for awhile. A Sealed copy came up on discogs from a trusted buyer at a great price so I snapped it up quickly. Tito Ramos and Tony Rojas provide a great LP for any Latin music lover. Recommended tracks include Los TNT, La Pobrecita and my second Favourite Salsa in English "Hello My Love"
Included from the same seller is
La Tipica 73 - Salsa Encendida LP
A classic from this New York based band featuring José Alberto and Camilo Azuquita on vocals contains the killers track "Baila Que Baila" and the Gury favourite Xiomara. Must have for any fan of La Tipica's sound. Sonny Bravo has some sweet arrangements here and the addition of Alfredo De La Fe on violin make this a 5 stars album
From Ebay
I do not generally buy from Ebay as I find sellers very inconsistent and in this bull vinyl market prices can skyrocket easily. If you see me buying on Ebay I got a great deal or am dealing with a trusted vendor.
El Sonido Latino - La Piramide 7"
Picked this up on a whim, was cheap $3 or $4 selling point was it features Sammy Ayala on Vocals. Have yet to listen but will be part of the Vinyl Junkie podcast at sometime soon.
Orchestra Tentacion - Nuestra Raices LP
Been looking for this LP fro quite some time although this is an inferior Colombian pressing I am pleased overall with it's sound. Didn't cost the $80-$120 I have seen the US pressing go for. I am very happy with this copy and the seller through in two LP's as stiffeners in the package :) I Love this as it is usually stuff not on discogs and allows me to make some new submissions.
Open package saw this first and freaked that I had been sent wrong record. Phew just a stiffener. Being a big fan of the Dominican Cheché Abreu made this a nice addition to my collection. Will also get a feature on Vinyl Junkie in Near Future.
Know nothing of this LP. Huge fan of Tito, but something tells me this is another group doing elevator versions of his hits. Will get back to you with a follow up review :)

As I live and work in Guelph, Ontario alot of my dogs are from around South Western Ontario and have a slight Canadian bent. Today after work and before picking up the kids from daycare I had a few minutes to pop in to a couple of thrift shops on the west end of the city. Lately I have been having some great success at Goodwill and store over 50LP's a couple of weeks ago for a buck a piece.
A very Nice CD from one of the original Rheostaics Martin continues on with his quirky numbers. Picked this up for sentimental reasons as the first Rheostatics LP was released on my label X Records.
A nice compilation of two EP's and an LP from the early 80's. This political punk folk compilation is all my favourite Bragg tracks on one CD. Great for the car
Original Members of Alice Cooper renamed Billon Dollar Babies when Alice went Solo in 1974. had to pick it up. Little to rocky for me but still digging it. Name was taken from the #1 album of Alice Cooper.
Local Jazz band from Georgetown Ontario. Don't know anything about but had to buy it. They claim to be honouray citizens of New Orleans so they must be good right ? Tracks were recorded for a local TV show called "Swing Sensation' on CKCO TV.
